One month already?!

I can't believe it's already been 1 month since Lucas was born! What a month it has been! So far he has been a pretty laid back baby...which makes me think we are in for a doozie of a toddler phase to make up for it!

He has done great with eating, and most nights he sleeps for 3-4 hour stretches, although the hiccups and poopy diapers can occasionally derail things. Last night he actually went 5 hrs between feeds! His favorite spot to snuggle is laying on his belly on mine or Andy's chest. He has some good wakeful periods during the day and is already doing a great job of lifting his head during tummy time. I don't think I'll ever be able to get enough of snuggling with him!

Both of our sets of parents have been able to come for visits, and he got to meet his only great-grandparent last weekend!

In the midst of all the feedings and diaper changes, we (ok, mostly Andy) are still pushing forward with the house.

Since Lucas was born, we've had the walls painted...

most of the baseboards installed...

tile laid... (not grouted yet)

light fixtures installed, and electricity turned back on!

It is finally starting to feel like we are getting close to finishing things. We definitely wouldn't be this far along if it weren't for friends and family who have helped us and Andy's tireless determination to get this project done!

He is here!

I am somewhat at a loss at where to start with this post. 3 weeks ago we had what was one of the most significant changes of our lives. We became parents! It has taken a little while for that reality to set in...really it's still setting in. The first day in the hospital it felt like someone had given us this baby to babysit for them. Being settled in at home has made it a little more real.

First pic as a family of 3!

The whole labor process started a little unexpectedly when my water broke late Saturday night. Thankfully, we were at home (do all pregnant women have a fear of their water breaking in public?). My parents had actually just left Birmingham and were only halfway to Memphis, so we went ahead and told them to turn back around. We had just joked with them about this happening, but never imagined it actually would.

I won't bore you with the long version of labor and delivery, but here is the short version...
We got admitted and I thankfully I went into labor on my own. After only 4 hours of contractions, I was complete and it was time to push! That was WAY faster than we expected. In fact I had told our families to go ahead and check into the hotel and take a nap (thankfully, they didn't take my advice). I did get an epidural and it was great.

Lucas was born at 11:34 am, July 21. Talk about a life-changing moment! I had just posted about how I couldn't  wait to hold Lucas in my arms, and it was definitely worth the wait. Snuggling with our little man is just about the best feeling in in the world! He weighed 6 lbs 4 oz, and was 19 inches long.

Thankfully, the rest of our hospital stay was pretty uneventful. Lucas is healthy, and my recovery has gone well so far. We had excellent care from our doctors and nurses, and we couldn't wait to settle in at home. We have been so blessed to be surrounded by friends and family during this time, and I can't thank you all enough for all you have done to celebrate with us and help make this transition smoother.

I must say holding this little miracle in my arms has made me more aware than ever that God is sovereign in our lives. It truly is only by his hand that we were given this little life to care for, and I am beyond grateful for this blessing. So much of the pregnancy/labor/delivery/parenting process has been out of our hands, and I have been thankful for the gentle reminder to simply trust in the Lord. He cares for us and will carry us through no matter what comes our way. I have to remind myself of that when that little fearful voice in my head says, "but what if [insert fear] happens?" Thank you Lord, for caring for and loving us! And thank You for Lucas!

I will *try* to post more house and baby updates soon. However, it took me over a week to write this post...so we'll see!
